Abstract

The knowledge adquisition phase in Knowledge-based systems is still an important bottleneck. Case-Based Reasoning is a paradigm to build knowledge based systems, where past stereotypical experiences are used as the main source of knowledge to solve current problems. We use a knowledge intensive approach to CBR where the involved general knowledge is formalized usign Description Logics (DLs). Our experience has taught us that DLs are too complex to be understood by domain users. We observed that, because this complexity, they try to avoid the use of the system. We developed a methodology that includes several aspects in order to break this blockage. One aspect is the use of a two-layered knowledge representation: a formal layer with DLs and a graphical layer based on CMAPS. We centered our work with CMAPS in the first stage of the knowledge engineering cycle, the conceptualization phase.
