Abstract

Knowledge representation is one of the areas that Education is concerned with. Recently, ontologies have gained great importance as a way of representing knowledge. Thus, several researchers have investigated the creation of ontologies from concept maps. This paper explains the process of mapping a concept map into an OWL ontology and shows the conceptual architecture of a system designed to accomplish this task. Functions aspects are also discussed and necessary adaptations to conventional concept maps editors in order to make them able to support such mapping. In addition, a comparative analysis of existing web tools is provided, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses. Besides, we present a prototype as a proof of concept.
